There are three aspects to consider:

Contamination with suspended matter

In order to free the water from these suspended matter, fine filtration must take place in the first step. The dirt and suspended matter must be removed in order to avoid premature clogging of the activated carbon filter. Standard fine filters are used for this.

Toxic contamination

Toxic substances in water can be natural or man-made. Natural toxins are e.g. B Corpse toxins (dead animals) or toxins from microorganisms such as blue-green algae. Man-made toxins are industrial waste and accidents, accidents or even active poisoning of drinking water systems through sabotage, terrorism or war.

Only activated charcoal can be used to eliminate toxins (chemicals) from water because it has a high absorption capacity for various types of toxins and chemicals and other methods fail. As a second step, we recommend filtering using commercially available activated carbon block filters.

Many manufacturers state that activated carbon also eliminates pathogens, but this is not the case. On the contrary, they can grow en masse on the activated charcoal, since the porous surface and the filtered substances create a large area and a good food base. This growth leads to an enrichment of the water flowing through with microorganisms.

Contamination with pathogens

Many microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses) are harmless inhabitants of the water and have no pathogenic effect on humans.
Other microorganisms (pathogens - bacteria, fungi, viruses) in the water, however, are very harmful to humans and must not be ingested. These are partly of natural origin, but pathogens, including toxic chemicals, can also get into the water through sabotage, terrorism or war.

membraclean H2O Trekking & Survival is an approved disinfectant and predestined for drinking water treatment or . for secondary disinfection according to the Drinking Water Ordinance.

The following must be observed when treating the water with membraclean H2O Trekking & Survival:

1. To store water from a safe source (e.g. B Tap water non-toxic) 1% membraclean H2O Trekking & Survival is first added to the water (1 liter to 100 liters - see table in the instructions for use), as the active ingredients are depleted at the beginning and during longer storage.

2. When using the stored water from a safe source (eg. B Non-toxic tap water) or after a storage period of 4 months, the water is treated with 0.2% membraclean H2O Trekking & Survival (200 ml for 100 liters - see table in the instructions for use).

Both concentrations correspond to the limit values ​​of the Drinking Water Ordinance, i. H the water may be used for human consumption, including for the preparation of food and for drinking!
